Face Finder is an exciting enhancement to the Zenfolio People Filter feature. Face Finder lets you give your clients the ability to find their photos by uploading a photo or taking a selfie.
This guide will show you how to enable Face Finder on your Galleries and explain how your clients will use the feature.
Enabling Face Finder on a Gallery
Before you can enable Face Finder on a Gallery, you must first run a Facial Scan on the Gallery:
Running a Facial Scan During Gallery Creation and Upload
When you create a new Gallery, simply check the Facial Scan box in the upload options. The scan will be initiated automatically for the images that you upload to that new Gallery.
| If this is the first time you are enabling the Facial Scan, you will be prompted to agree to the terms of service related to this option. This will also enable the Facial Scan option on the account overall. |
Once the Gallery is created, the photos are uploaded, and the scan is complete, Face Finder is ready to be used.
Running a Facial Scan on an Existing Gallery
For Galleries that have already been created:
- In your Zenfolio account, go to the
Galleries section.
- Select the Gallery you want to access.
- Go to the Gallery's Settings
- Click on the Content tab.
- Then choose the Search Tools option.
- Turn on the Face Finder option.
- You'll then be prompted with a message stating that the Gallery needs to complete a Facial Scan. Click Scan Now.
| If this is the first time you are enabling the Face Finder, you will be prompted to agree to the terms of service related to this option. This will also enable the Facial Scan option on the account overall. |
Once the scan is complete, Face Finder is ready to be used.
Face Finder Access Settings
You have the flexibility to control who can use Face Finder. You can set the access in the gallery's Settings > Content > Search Tools.
- Everyone: Anyone who can access the gallery (e.g., via a public link) can use Face Finder.
- Clients and Guests: Only clients and guests who have been added to the gallery's contacts can use Face Finder.
You can also set Face Finder to be on by default for new galleries by creating a gallery preset.
How Your Clients Use Face Finder
Once Face Finder is enabled, your clients will see the Face Finder icon in the gallery. Here’s a breakdown of the process:
- Initiating Face Finder: Your clients will click on the Face Finder Icon within the Gallery. If they'll be prompted to log into an existing account, or they can create an account. Having an account through your Galleries will be required in order for them to use Face Finder.
-
Agreeing to Terms: Clients must agree to Zenfolio's Terms of Service to proceed.
When a client uses FaceFinder, they are required to agree to Zenfolio’s Terms of Service before uploading or taking a selfie. This step ensures that the client confirms they have the rights to use the image being submitted, which helps protect you as the photographer from potential liability if someone later disputes the use of their likeness.
- Taking a Photo or Uploading a Photo: A window will pop up, allowing them to either take a photo with their device's camera or upload an existing photo from their computer or phone.
- Viewing Results: The facial recognition technology will search for their face within the Gallery's photos and display the results. They'll have the ability to swap between 'All Photos' in the Gallery and only the photos filtered by Face Finder. They can also indicate whether or not specific photos are not actually a match.
Important Notes for Your Clients
- Privacy is a Priority: We want to assure you that your clients' selfies are not stored on our servers. The photo is used temporarily for the duration of the session and is automatically deleted when the session ends.
- Accurate Results: The accuracy of the facial scan depends on the quality and clarity of the submitted photo and the photos within the gallery.
- Since Zenfolio does not know who appears in the uploaded photos, we cannot collect consent on the photographer’s behalf. Photographers are responsible for confirming that they have the legal right to use and scan the images they upload. Requirements for image and facial scan consent vary by location. In some areas, written consent may be required, while others may allow it under specific conditions. Zenfolio cannot provide legal advice, so photographers should ensure compliance with all applicable laws before enabling or using facial scanning features.
*Per legal requirements, Face Finder may show as disabled due to specific location laws (e.g., Illinois).
