By default, all galleries that you create in your account will not allow any downloading of photos or videos that have been uploaded. However, if you do want to make your content downloadable, you can allow this within the Settings of the Gallery.
When allowing downloading in a Gallery, you can make all photos/videos downloadable or limit the number that someone can download from the Gallery. You can also choose whether the downloads are available to clients, guests, and/or all visitors.
In addition to choosing who can download, and how many photos/videos they can download, you can also choose what sizes will be available for multi-photo or single photo downloading.
Please note there are no additional fees or costs related to allowing this type of downloading within the Gallery Settings.
Photo Downloading
To edit the Photo Downloading settings of a Gallery, follow these steps:
- Go into the Galleries area
of your account, and select the Gallery you want to edit.
- With the specific Gallery open, click on the Settings tab.
- Go to the Content section of the Settings.
- Select the Downloads tab.
- Gallery Download: To allow bulk photo downloading from the Gallery, toggle the Gallery Download option ON.
- Use the provided dropdown menus to select whether you want to allow downloading of All Photos in the Gallery, or if you want to limit how many photos can be downloaded to a Specific Amount. You can also choose who will be able to download from the Gallery; Everyone, Clients Only, or Clients and Guests Only.
|
Note: Setting downloads to a Specific Amount constitutes a limit imposed on each individual client, rather than an overarching limit for the entire gallery itself. Because the Specific Amount download option can only be offered for Clients and/or Guests, you must have at least one Client or Guest set in the Contacts of the Gallery to limit how many photos can be downloaded. Selecting the Specific Amount download option also disables the ability to offer the Single Photo Downloads option. |
- Select the resolution sizes that you'd like to make available for download when someone uses this Gallery Download option.
- Single Photo Download: To allow downloading one photo at a time from the Gallery, toggle the Single Photo Download option ON.
- Once again, use the dropdown menu to choose who will be able to download single photos; Everyone, Clients Only, or Clients and Guests Only.
- Select the resolution sizes that you'd like to make available for download when someone uses this Single Photo Download option.
- If you would like to require the individual doing the downloading to agree to a Digital License, switch ON this option. For more information about Digital Licenses, see the support article HERE.
Video Downloading
Please note that the originally uploaded file of your video will not be stored within your account after uploading. Therefore, when allowing downloading, the largest option for downloading will be the largest display version of the video that Zenfolio generates for your videos.
To edit the Video Download settings of a Gallery, follow these steps:

of your account, and select the Gallery you want to edit.

Client Download Experience
Single Photo/Video Download
When a visitor to a Gallery has access to and chooses to use the single file download option, the download of that individual item will begin immediately in their web browser, after selecting a location to download the file to.
Full Gallery Photo/Video Download
Upon requesting the download of a full Gallery, the system will compile the selected media and generate the appropriate download links which it will then send to the provided email address. When the client/visitor receives the notification email indicating that their downloads are ready, they may use the included download button to access their files.
| Note: If the total download size is large enough, the system may split the download into multiple zip files, which the client will need to download individually. This segmentation helps reduce the risk of connectivity issues during the download process, often caused by slower or intermittent connections, that could result in failure or file corruption. |
See this support article for more information about the Client download experience.
