With Commenting enabled within a Gallery, invited Clients will be able to view and leave comments for you. This is a great way to communicate directly within the Gallery for client photo proofing, in addition to Favoriting.

Note: Commenting is only available for invited Clients of a Gallery. Guests and other Visitors will not be able to comment on photos. You will need to add individual Clients to the Gallery to allow them to comment, after enabling commenting.
Turning ON Commenting
- In your Zenfolio account, click on the Galleries icon, on the left-hand side. And select a Gallery you want to enable commenting in.
- Go into the Settings of the Gallery.
- Open the Social Features tab, on the left-hand side.
- Toggle the Commenting switch to the ON position.
Only designated Clients can comment on photos in your galleries. If you do not have at least one person added as a Client, in your Gallery's Contacts, you will need to add a Client first before enabling this option. If you do not have a Client added to the Gallery, you will receive the following message:
Commenting Notification Settings
Within your account's Notification Settings, you can choose how you'd like to be notified of new comments on your photos. To adjust your Notification settings, follow these steps:
- Click on your name in the top left-hand corner.
- Choose Account Settings from the dropdown menu.
- Select the Account tab.
- Then select or scroll to the Notification Settings section.
- In the Notification Settings, you can then adjust whether you want to receive notification in your account and through email notifications.
Viewing and Responding to Comments
Once you enable commenting within a Gallery, invited Clients will be able to visit and comment on photos within that Gallery. When a comment arrives, you will be notified within your account about the new comment, depending on your notification settings.
- To view new comments, you can click on the notification bell in the top right-hand corner. Or you can go into the gallery and select the Activity tab. You will also notice that there are orange notification dots to indicate unread comments.
- From there, select the Comments tab, on the left-hand side.
- Here you will see the comments currently present on photos in the Gallery. Click on a comment to view it.
- You can then respond to the comment on this photo, using the text box at the bottom of the comment window.

After a client has initially commented on a photo, and you have responded to their comment, the client can then visit the Gallery again and will see that there is a notification about unread comments.
Within their Gallery, the commenting icon at the top of the Gallery will indicate a new comment within a green dot. Clicking on this will let them see which photos they've commented on and they can select a photo to view the communications.
